Ryan’s practice focuses on insurance coverage, alleged bad faith litigation and general advice to insurers writing policies in Washington and Oregon. He handles both first- and third-party claims and advises clients regarding coverages over a wide variety of policies, including Commercial General Liability, Homeowners, Directors & Officers Liability, Construction, Environmental Liability, Technology, Professional Liability, Commercial Excess, Maritime and Automobile.

Ryan regularly conducts presentations on Washington insurance claims handling including alleged bad faith issues. He has significant experience with IFCA, CPA and common law bad faith claims and Stipulated (Covenant) Judgments in Washington. Recently, he has assisted clients and given presentations on insurance coverage issues related to COVID-19.

  • Successfully obtained summary judgment ruling of no coverage in professional liability coverage matter.
  • Successfully defended four-day reasonableness hearing involving covenant judgment against insurer client, with court finding proposed covenant judgment settlement was unreasonable.
  • Successfully mediated numerous cases for insurers, avoiding significant bad faith litigation.
  • Obtained favorable resolution for insurer with stipulation of no coverage from insured and client responsible for paying just 2.5% of defense costs incurred in underlying wrongful death matter.
